Saudi Music Hip-Hop Radio Host and Blogger,  Hassane Dennaoui (a.k.a. Big Hass) has taken on the role of executive producer in 2020, connecting artists. 

From cyphers to singles, Big Hass wants to put forward talented independent artists while highlighting Arab roots, diversity, unity and third culture. 

On the 4th November, 2025, Big Hass released his latest record featuring Sudanese Artist/Rapper Kordofani and produced by Dice beats. After a break of 1 year+ , Big Hass is BACK with another release! This one features Kordofani, A Sudanese Artist/Rapper who is visually Impaired and has a lot of heart/Soul. His raps are RAW. He gained attractions on platforms like IG & TikTok with people falling in love with his bars! 

Big Hass found Kordofani online early 2025! He resonated with him and was waiting for the right time to connect/challenge him, “I always love to challenge the rappers, especially the ones that love the craft of rapping!!, When i first saw him, something in me sparked and I was inspired to executive producer again!, I put a call on IG asking for producers to send me BEATS, and DICE hit me back and we connected, and the rest is history” Hass says. “Farq Shas3” which somehow translates to “Big difference/gap” is a 90 second rap about Kordofani and his condition. 

His passion is transparent and his lyrics hit home! “I don't believe I shed light on Kordofani, because he has his OWN light, light is within him, I feel proud/honored to have released this record with him and I wish him the best moving forward” Hass says

Quick Q&A with the man himself:

RE-VOLT: How did it all start with you? and what's behind the name shqzu? 

SHQZU: It was 2009, we’d kick it me and a group of friends some of us were still in High School but at that time I had graduated. We’d pick an instrumental off YouTube write to it and record using one of those Headsets that came with a microphone, back then used for Skype Calls I used to go by ShaQ and that’s after my father’s name Shakir (NOT SHAQUILLE O'NEAL), I was thinking of how I needed to standout and it was quite frustrating living the shadow of a great NBA player haha I was inspired by an article I read about the Zulu tribe and their leader at a certain point in time SHAKA ZULU, so it was metaphorically beautiful and inspired a lot, that’s where it first originated “Shaqazulu” then I just had to like come up with an abbreviation because it was quite long so I finally settled on SHQZU, sounded dope. 

RE-VOLT: You Sudanese, based in Riyadh. When did you move there? 

SHQZU: I came to Saudi Arabia in December 2018, like literally 48hrs before the Sudan revolted. I was in Khobar then after that moved to Riyadh in June 2019, I liked it here more to be honest.

You have a chilling vibe, love the wordplay, what inspires you in rap at the moment? 

SHQZU:Appreciate it bro, umm well I kind of get inspired by many different things, it inspires me seeing fellow artists unlocking their potentials and setting milestones, I love collaborating. 
Like when two or more artists come together and there’s chemistry and each present their own ideas, their own touch and be able to just capture that vibe and deliver it.....man I don’t know what to tell you, that’s just beautiful! 

- Who are your top MC's in Sudan? 
SHQZU: Well this is a tough pick... We have so much great talents back in Sudan bro, some of them not as popular as others, but there are countless dope talents and I’m just talking about the ones I had come across or met, I’m pretty sure there is a lot more, anyways I’ll name a few of my personal favourites, not in order of course... - Naj - AhmediHussein - O’D - Ace - The Circle - A7md - Flippter - YoungJustus - Oddisee ...You see I just had to stop myself because I could seriously keep going for days haha - 

Who are your top MC's ever? give me a top 5?
SHQZU: Well the first Hip hop track I ever heard when I was a kid was a Tupac track, so yeah I’ll play it safe and in no order - Tupac - Biggie - Jay Z - Nas - Method Man But to make it clear, you can ask me this same question on a different day and get a different answer, I guess today is this kind of day - 

Your production is mad dope! What's the process of your production, who is a producer that inspires you? 

SHQZU: Much love much love fam I really appreciate it... Well first of all I love beats, (I mean like who doesn’t...) but I love sampled beats! Especially those with vocal samples and soulful vibes, man I live for that. 
The process is umm I listen to music often, usually not Hip hop when I’m in the mood to make music though, so I’m usually playing the music while doing other stuff and I would usually come across a certain sound or vibe that steals my attention and qualifies for a “sound I would go for” in the music I’m making. 
At that point its either I’d start beat making right away or I’d just label it for later, depends. Producers there is also a lot that I love and aspire to be like for example there’s J Dilla, No ID, 9th Wonder, DJ Premier and back in the day Kanye

Have you ever thought about rapping in Arabic? 
SHQZU: Actually I’ve been told a lot the “Why don’t you rap in Arabic your mother tongue etc. etc.”, therefore I actually did work on a couple tracks where I spit in Arabic, Sudanese dialect to be precise. So the answer is Yes, I did

Tell us about the "111" EP. I LOVE IT!!! How long did it take you to put it out there? 
SHQZU: 111 is the story of how I silenced my negative thoughts and second guessing and pushed through to get back to making music, In numerology 111 signifies the manifestation of your thoughts, it’s said one should be mindful of what they constantly think about as these thoughts good or bad come into reality. 

So 111 to me is an audio representation of how I gradually stepped out of a “negative thought loop” into a more brighter or a positive perspective, it’s a fresh start and a new beginning. I’m constantly making beats some of them I end up using some of them I don’t, but I put aside a certain set of beats and started writing and recording to sometime around mid-Sept 2019, the project release was on the 11th of Jan 2020. 

Is there a story behind "homeboiii"? :) 
SHQZU: Initially I was going to name it “Overthink”, like you know, how most of us do! But as I mentioned I was trying to overcome the negativity and have a positive approach in presenting this project therefore I had created this, my alter ego aka Homeboiii. This was an introduction and I’m going to dive into that persona more and more in the near future insha’Allah just stay tuned!

In the EP "111" which track is the most personal to you? (i know all of them are but if you given a shot to give a track out of ur EP to Sway, to play it, Which one would you send and why?" 
SHQZU: Well you already know that it’s really hard to pick out just one because they’re practically like a story building up haha but umm I can say this...the most personal track “although it changes with time” and the track I would give to Sway if I were to, are not the same haha If I was to get a record to spin on the radio I’d probably say “Been There” because it kind of summarizes the whole theme of this project and has a sort of an uplifting good vibe, nice to bump while cruising or during traffic and stuff “the whole project is actually, I recommend you check it out this link”

SHQZU: I definitely have to shout out every single soul that made it possible for this project to come about and those that inspired me to make a “comeback” in the first place...I’m going to drop their Instagram accounts if you don’t mind...

Islam is the religion of peace and a code for life. The Muslim community in the US has forever struggled with misconceptions and racism, as so many people keep formulating inaccurate ideas and stereotypes of what being a Muslim is. Since society was not willing to ask the right questions and strike curious conversations, it was up to the Muslim community to dominate the dialogue and address their experiences as Black and non-Black Muslims living in the US, in order to challenge the racist norms. 

The biggest supporter of these conversations was Hip-Hop. Known to be the artform that gave a voice to the voiceless, Hip-Hop, through poignant lyricism and imposing beats, sheltered and empowered the Muslim community to stand up for their rights. Influecned by personalities like Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali, Hip-Hop culture was strongly connected to the essence of Islam, from the foundation of Zulu Nation in the early 1970’s, to the “Golden Age” of hip-hop and onto the present. Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, Public Enemy, Gang Starr, Ice Cube, Lupe Fiasco, The Wu-Tang Clan, Talib Kweli and many more were some of the most prominent artists that contributed to Hip-Hop culture, however, all of these names were identified as Muslims and/or are connected to Islam. Just listening to the pioneers of rap uncovers various Islamic references, such as ‘Alhamdullilah’ and ‘As-salamu Alaykom wa Alaykom As-salam’. Being the birth place of Hip-Hop, New York was also the hub of the Nation of Islam in the early sixties. In a way , Hip-Hop became Islam's language through which it found a whole generation of voices.

These were the years that saw a resurgence of interest in Islam as a message of social justice, self-empowerment, and resistance. For instance, Film Director, Spike Lee released his epic Malcolm X biopic, and Louis Farrakhan led a million black men to Washington. The names Malcolm and Farrakhan were mentioned and their voices were sampled in thousands of rap songs. 


Rap music was filled with references to Islam, whether the symbolic interpretations of the Five Percenters, praising Minister Louis Farrakhan, when Biggie used it in his song ‘The What’ with Method Mad, as follows “.. It's the praying mantis, deep like the mind of Farrakhan” or by simply putting these words into practice, like Yasiin Bey (formely known as Mos Def), who begins all his projects and songs with the phrase “Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim” - which means “In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful". Nas in his “Undying Love” track released in 1999 had a verse that said “..To Muhammad and Allah, the most beneficial Through you, all things are possible, I know you're listenin...” Common in his song “G.O.D. (Gaining One's Definition)” said “.. Koran and the Bible, to me they all vital And got truth within 'em, gotta read them boys..”

Islamic greetings went beyond the rappers of Muslim faith. Many mainstream artists started leaving hints of Arabic salutations in their songs. In full transparency, they were able to make Muslim accessible and friendly. In her book “Muslim Cool”, Professor and anthropologist Dr. Suaad Abdul-Khabeer introduces the conversation about the broader relationship between Islam and Hip Hop. In preparation for her book, she spent a lot of time observing people and one of the highlights was how young Black muslims were using Hip-Hop based activism, to deal with inequality in the community. Hip-Hop is a way for them to interpret the world and to find themselves in it, hence the term ‘Muslim Cool’. The more these Islamic references were spoken by popular rappers, the kinder and more approachable was becoming the image of Islam. 

That said, setbacks like the aftermath of 9/11 left many scars in the US and developed Islamophobia, so the struggle for validation and recognition is continuous. The misconceptions about “the danger of the religion” increase the gap between the status quo and a more inclusive and racism-free nation. 

“It’s important for Muslim Women to be present in places that we don’t expect them to be, because that’s where change happens” Poetic Pilgrimage which is a hip-hop duo from the U.K., and their music is influenced by their Muslim faith, Jamaican background and British upbringing. Their music has given a voice to Muslim women, and has undoubtly become a bridge between the global hip-hop community and Islam.

When two elements collaborate with each other and create effortlessly a new entity that works and stands on its own, that’s harmony. Islam and Hip-Hop come together to form the voice for peace, the lyrics to existence, the guidelines to life, the power against social flaws and the light for the youth to naviagate in the darkest times. 

The Father of Hip-Hop said it best! In an interview on Saudi’s First FM Hip-Hop Radio Show ‘Laish Hip Hop?” hosted by myself, DJ Kool Herc answered with so much conviction and confidence, an existential question about Hip-Hop culture and its relation to Islam and this is what he had to say : “ It [Hip-Hop] comes with it ... there’s a lot of stigma against Hip-Hop, there’s a lot of stigma against Muslims, we still taking hits, we don’t accept it, we need to show the positive/humble side of it ” 

I recently dropped a Hip-Hop mixtape entitled “Al Jisr” - which means The Bridge in Arabic - and it combines Arab and International rappers, in an attempt to show that Hip-Hop is a great means to bridging cultures. I requested special shoutouts from all the featured artists, including Brother Ali, who delivered a one-minute breath-taking gift of wisdom, praising the initiative. Brother Ali embodies the ultimate example of an inspiring, empowering and truthful rapper. His light is contagious, as his verses transcend spirituality and connection with others. His energy has left me speechless throughout the years I have known him, and I have yet to enjoy the day I meet this humble man, who till this day embraces the power of Islam and the creativity of Hip-Hop.

Them Kuwaiti boys are really rocking it early in 2020!! They have already released "SONS OF YUSUF & SHAFIQ HUSAYN" EP IN NOV'19 and released 2 tracks from their upcoming album "Shaykh The World" coming out in the next 7-10 days! 

On Jan 31st,2020, the duo dropped a track that features non-other than Jay Electronica ! and man oh man! Loved it! Jay's verse on it just fire! Sons Of Yusuf are once again proving that they are really building that bridge between East & West and connecting us more through Hip-Hop, I believe more people in the Middle-East needs to know about Jay!

I got Sons Of Yusuf on Buckle Up earlier today and they spoke about that collabo..."We connected with Jay Electronica back in 2007... now we have a record wit him.." Ya'koob told me...

Their Buckle Up Episode will be out by next week!

The song is titled "Diving For Pearls" and he went on and said ...

SUDAN CYPHER | سايفر السودان

I've always had a connection with Sudan, I am yet to figure out what and how this connections started but I LOVE the country, I love the people, I love the art, I love everything about Sudan. One of my 2020 goals is to visit Sudan inshalla.

I also love "cyphers", Put together 2 re-volt cyphers + an Anghami Cypher in the past, and then I wanted to do a "Sudan Cypher" and I felt honored to reach out to few incredible MC's that personally impacted me with their lyrics and their incredible flow.

I've had the pleasure to connect/meet with Brooklyn Hitz through the guys at "Phoaq" and I fell in love with his authentic beats and his passion for true hip-hop production. I reached out to him with the idea and he was very welcoming and supportive. He sent me many beats, I chose mainly 3 beats and those beats were sent to the rappers who I put together.

Now, this was the hardest part, I personally wanted to put a Cypher with the MC's that personally impacted me and hence I started to gather the line up.

I reached out to the rappers and they ALL showed so much love and support.

Each of them delivered and i loved the diversity of their verses.

"Hold Me Down" Title of the Debut EP for Egyptian-Malaysia based Produced "77"

There's a certain feeling of satisfaction when I'm able to spot talents at their early stage or when they drop their first album/EP/song. Im a big believer that if something impacted me that I want to support it. I don't wait until that artist really "makes" it and that could be a good or bad thing. I just trust my instincts and go for it. Supporting someone with a talent is NEVER wrong and that's always been my approach since 2007 till now. 

Yesterday, I heard a new EP dropped by Egyptian producer "77". He is 19. Born-raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and currently in Malaysia pursuing an education in sound engineering. His name is Mahmoud, and his parents calls him "7ooda" and he chose the name "77" as an "artist/stage" name simply because he saw the number "77" everywhere and he took that as a "SIGN" ... 

When I asked him about his debut EP entitled "Hold Me Down", he had this to say: "...this is very special to me because as an individual, I always felt that something was holding me back from achieving what I want whether it is making music as an Arab or taking on the challenge that our society/culture refuses to accept or support. Especially now more than ever we are living in a generation where there is so much negativity being passed around"

I personally support such a theme and the fact that he's 19 and took that step is something I want to salute him on. He goes on and say "While creating "Hold me down", I slowly began to accept that I am the one that is holding myself back, the fact that I let all these things get into my head really shows that it is all up to me whether I will let that stop me from chasing what I'm really passionate about or not. After finally accepting that, I have given myself the freedom to do what I want knowing that there is nothing holding me down."

".. Nothing is holding you down but yourself! A huge shout out to every individual that was involved in this project for believing in my vision and for expressing their feelings towards this topic through a creative process!" 77 told Re-Volt

I personally enjoyed the full EP, the journey I took, I had a 40 min drive and just put it on! and from the intro, "77" was able to take me through that journey of "Self Discovery" and that life might throw certain challenges your way but that's the way you will learn. I loved the production. I loved how simple/yet complicated they are. In terms of rappers, I salute "77" for choosing the names he got. I enjoyed it and I recommend you giving this a listen...

Mazzi & Tac : They Met Once in Dubai and BOOM, An EP is now LIVE!!

It's surreal to witness this project come to life. I've know the fam "Mazzi" since I launched the blog, way back in '07. We have always remained in contact and throughout my journey, he has ALWAYS showed love and support. Just last year, he was passing by the UAE and we connected and I was telling him about SOLE DXB and he got really intrigued and knowing him, he really fell in love with the idea of being in Dubai and witnessing this Cultural Hip-Hop festival. So, 3 months later, Mazzi made it to SOLE DXB as part of the Def Jam crew that was coming with Dani Leigh.

Last year, I was blessed to have a "Radio Booth" at Sole DXB, I called it "THE BEAT" and it featured 8 Rappers, but when I found out Mazzi was gona make it, I had to add him to the mix and watching all these rappers spit on various beats was a blessing

I found myself introducing Mazzi to the community and one of those artists was Tac and to see that they now have a project together makes me super happy. I asked Mazzi how did this whole project see light, this is what he said :- 

"..Stepping into the SOLE DXB cypher, I immediately sensed the immense talent around me! 
Dubai has an array of artists with unique styles! One person who stood out was a this kid Tac! He was young, lyrically gifted, & hungry! 
Soon after, I got a chance to build with him & saw that our styles would definitely compliment each other... That led to us mutually & organically deciding to record an EP on my next trip to Dubai! 
We completed it in two days, & spawned “S.O.U.L. Broke Forever”! 
Hope you guys enjoy it! Looking forward to further collaborations out there! YALLA!"

I had to also ask Tac about that collabo and he had this to say: 
"no disrespect to anyone I ever worked with, but there's only a handful of rappers that give me a hard time on a record, and man... Mazzi?? He up there.." adding that when he met Mazzi in that Sole Dxb Cypher, the EP was born then.. 
a YEAR later its a reality and its LIVE!

What's admirable and amazing is that ALL proceeds/profits from sales go to the Kenya Community Centre For Learning 
which is a special needs school in Nairobi and this is how Mazzi has been releasing every single project/album and it's amazing to see this collaboration with a Dubai-Based Artist. 

I want to thank both artists for collaborating, it is somehow a bridge, Tac is an Egyptian-UAE based rapper and Mazzi is American-Iranian based in NY. Its just beautiful..

Little Brother are an American hip hop duo from Durham, North Carolina that consists of rappers Phonte and Big Pooh. 

DJ/Producer 9th Wonder was an original member of the group but departed in 2007. 

& Now, Phonte and Big Pooh have released their "May The Lord Watch" album, their first since 2010.

I been listening to the album since it dropped Aug 20th, 2019 !! and I keep saying every song is something. What a project. What a journey. Its beautiful to see what Phonte and Big Pooh would say about the album and the process. 

I just think its amazing they took that much time to put something out to the world that is 100% classic. I feel this should be somehow put in a "time capsule" so that future Hip-Hop generations would get a taste of how hip-hop should sound like.

You wouldn't believe that there was a 9 year break!!!

Dubai based Somali Artist Mustafa Ismail better known as "Freek" always knew what he wanted to do with the track "Wala Kilma", he told Re-Volt ".. I wanted to do remix for the track right after I finished recording - even before I release it- not sure why, but it was my instinct". He was always looking ahead. 

The Wala Kilma track gained lots of attraction when it dropped and eventually was posted on one of the biggest platforms for urban music in the UK "LinkUpTV". 

Last Year, Freek met and shot a video for British rapper "EYEZ"  and that's how the discussion began. "I had Eyez's verse since January." said Freek. 

Soon after that he bumped into British rapper Young Tribez in Dubai and they automatically formed a great bond and Freek asked if he also would like to jump on the track and it was a DIRECT GO-AHEAD. 

RE-VOLT managed to get a quote from Young Tribez on this beautiful experience " Easily the most fun feature I've done to date, from when we first chopped it up right until we finished the 3 Day video shoot. Not getting to hear each other's verses until the song was finished was nerve racking but exciting at the same time. Speaking to freek about the song from when I saw the original on YouTube, I could see he puts time and effort into his craft. I didn't understand what he was saying at the time but he was flowing sick and the beat was just fire!!! So him asking me to be on the remix was a pleasure. 
Living in the UAE for the last year I can see the music scene here vastly growing, and brother freek is making sure the scene is represented in a unique way I'm just glad to be a part of it!!!"

Re-Volt Managed also to get a quote from EYEZ "Working with FREEK was an honour!! He is levels ahead of most people I have collaborated with and brings such a refreshing organic style! It's also sick that drill and rap is all over the world and FREEK is the best example of this.. I think freeks style with the wavy flows in Arabic is special and the way he has made a big introduction to the UK scene! Everyone is talking about him" British Rapper EYEZ told RE-VOLT 

I personally am so proud of this young man, I believe FREEK has an authenticity about him that will elevate him to lead the music scene in the UAE. His passion is beyond admirable and I truly believe in his talent. Words can't express how much this moment to me and to us living in the UAE. I feel Freek's music will surpass borders and when he gets on those international big stages, we will all hear the words " Wala Kilma.." being chanted by the crowd.

Bu Kolthoum has always been very honest with his lyrics. I feel its real and its refreshing. We really need to support this guy even more and push him. I salute him as he's someone who really is giving the whole Arabic Music scene something to really be proud of. He's unique. 

He just dropped a song called "Wallé" and its around 3 AM Dubai Time, and I had to catch him and ask him what inspired such a song, a full-detailed audio interview will be released in next few days but for now, please enjoy the song, push it, share it. 


Bu Kolthoum said for RE-VOLT : "For me I made this track, as kind of a statement to the victim culture and to the mob mentality culture. - - Two sides to the same coin, which is the same problem - We either idolize people to the point of we deny that they make mistakes and at the same we dehumanize other people totally as if they dont have any feelings" 

He goes on and says: "and the other side of the coin, Im addressing the fact that everyone wants to be a victim.  only the feeling of the victims matter... this track is a statement to that way of thinking"

Dubai Based Rapper Freek latest single "Wala Kilma" gaining attraction

Somali Dubai based rapper FREEK released his latest single entitled "Wala Kilma" end of March. The track which he has previously performed LIVE around couple of events in Dubai gained attraction quickly. 

The video was then reposted by LINKUP TV in the UK, one of the biggest platforms and the comments started coming giving attention to one of the artists that are truly making huge moves at the moment.

Last but not least, FREEK just released a teaser of the remix he is planning to release with shout out from Radio Host "Charlie Sloth" whose show on BBC One Extra featured plenty of superstars. The remix of "Wala Kilma' will have two British MC's and also other guests that are not yet announced. 

This is about to really BLOW UP. This is huge on many levels and we truly happy for FREEK for gaining that much well deserved attention. He's one of the very few rappers in Dubai that actually performs in Arabic and he always comes from an authentic place with his hardcore lyrics and beats.
