Hekayat10 is a community service scheme photography project, dedicated to the empowerment of 10 selected women to master the art of photography in AlRuwais (A local district in Jeddah) 

Hekayat means stories in Arabic & the Hekayat10 photography project selected 10 women from Al-Ruwais district to teach them the art of photography by documenting the historical part of Jeddah

One Be Lo Testimony | Thank You!

Earlier this October'13, I hosted One Be Lo In Jeddah , it was real amazing. 
Reason why I am writing this post is because One Be Lo wrote a great testimony about his visit here and I really appreciated that coming from a calibre artist like him. His support & words means a lot to me. 

This is what he said..

" When we all linked, I think this building session lasted a few hours. I met some talented artists in Jeddah, who had their own incredible unique stories, but they all still sounded so familiar. Nothing about it was foreign, or even less relevant than my experiences elsewhere. Hip Hop, the struggle, or whatever we wanna fill in the blank is universal. 
Anyway, be on the look out for some of the artist from that region. They're putting in work, and the brother Big Hass is putting in work to help build the scene there as well. 

Big Hass has a blog and radio show where he also plays authentic HipHop music from the U.S. And Artist from all over, in attempts to expose more people in the area to hiphop outside of the commercial and mainstream channels. I call it Connecting the dots. And you don't have to be a rapper, a DJ, famous, or infamous to spread art, love and peace. Talent is everywhere that people exist. It's not about one artist, or one city, but the whole culture. The culture of HipHop, but most importantly the culture of people in general.

UN Charity Event Controversy

When it comes to real Hip Hop, the perception of unenlightened people shifts towards demoralizing hip hop artists and their potential. People tend to estimate the value of their music as "not too popular" ; therefore discriminating them from other more'commercial' artists and bands.

This relentless tag has suffocated talented and - actually very popular in the scene - artists such as Arabian Knightz, who were recently confronted with quite the predicament. Sponsored by the UN, an event was planned to be held in honor of "National Volunteer Day" and many local artists were eager to participate and collaborate in such a public-spirited occasion. 

As modesty is key in any artist, Egyptian hip hop crew Arabian Knightz did not hesitate to express their involvement. When negotiations were made concerning compensations, An Egyptian UN representative explained that there won't be any!!

But, what seemed as a collective decision was actually biased. The other collaborating artists and bands WILL be collecting some sort of recompense. 

What was made clear to them - sadly - was that Arabian Knightz music was not popular enough to be rewarded and that performing on stage should be enough.

As a result , Arabian Knighz decided to pull out from the event. 
Here's what Sphinx (One of the members of AK) had to say:

"The sad part is that we get love outside of this country... touring with huge names and getting showed support and appreciation for the art and hard work we've done... yet locally even after all we have been able to do with HIP-HOP, it get treated like a lower form of art or not even art at all... as if we should be happy just to be able to perform...

Well we wont help in cheapening the art form for anybody with all due respect... "

Arabian Knightz are considered one of the most established Hip Hop groups in Arabia as they have been very active and are always a big advocate of authentic hip-hop. 

I stand in solidarity with my brothers and I wish them all the best.

Hosting Hip Hop Artist One Be Lo in #Jeddah

                                         

I have been following Hip Hop artist One Be Lo for a while now and I became a fan because of his powerful lyrics & humbled attitude. 

He recently hit me up via twitter telling me that he was in Riyadh (1 hr, 30 min) flight from my city Jeddah. With no hesitation - I sent him an invite to come for a day to discover the city & meet up some local artists in which he humbly agreed & we on!

Was blessed to be part of a historic move in the Hip Hop scene in Saudi. Hosted Saudi's FIRST Live Cypher on the FM Radio (MIX FM) live on my show "Laish Hip Hop?" -- Rappers took the mic and started expressing themselves through lyrics & the whole thing was LIVE on the radio -  Run Junction, Jeddah FAM, Top Rap Group in addition to a surprised guest Qusai & Slow Moe who surprised us with their presence.
